The world moves fast. In business, projects can seem to move at the speed of light.

Weeks, days, even hours can sometimes be the difference between pushing forward and falling apart.

Nothing is more frustrating than getting bogged down by forms and filings that can grind everything to a halt if they are not done right.

There is a language to working with government permits–a jargon written by the International Code Council that takes experience and know-how to navigate.

Express Permits has that covered.

The International Code Council develops model codes and standards used in the design, building and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable and affordable structures. Most U.S. communities and many global markets choose the International Codes.

The International Codes, or I-Codes, provide minimum safeguards for people at home, school and in the workplace. The I-Codes are a complete set of comprehensive, coordinated building safety and fire prevention codes, benefiting public safety and supporting the industry’s need for one set of codes without regional limitations.

Learning these codes takes months of study and a series of online tests. But having a certified ICC leader on staff gives Express Permit the captain to steer their clients through what can be confusing process.

“Being certified by the ICC gives our clients the confidence in having a complete understanding of the permit process, whether commercial or residential, said Express Permits President Steve Todd, whose wife and partner, Tabitha, sought and passed the certification. “Tabitha is one of the very few certified permit technicians in the United States. This not only helps our clients but it also opens new avenues for us to work with local jurisdictions to handle permit outsourcing and speeding up the process for them as well.”

All 50 states and the District of Columbia have adopted the I-Codes at the state or jurisdictional level. Federal agencies including the Architect of the Capitol, General Services Administration, National Park Service, Department of State, U.S. Forest Service and the Veterans Administration also enforce the I-Codes. The Department of Defense references the International Building Code for constructing military facilities, including those that house U.S. troops around the world and at home. Amtrak uses the International Green Construction Code for new and extensively renovated sites and structures. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands enforce one or more of the I-Codes.

As an ICC Preferred Provider, Express Permits is connected with more than 58,000 ICC members to stay current on various aspects of building design, construction and use. This brings the highest-quality service to fit your company’s individual needs.

“Every building department in every city has the ICC codes as their foundation,” Steve Todd said. “Each municipality will build off that, but by understanding the foundational system, it gives us a big leg up on serving our clients’ needs and being a premier permit service provider.”
